CLEMSON, S.C. – Junior Ryuhei Azuma earned Co-ACC Player of the week honors, the conference announced on Tuesday. This is Azuma’s first career individual honor and his second as a Tiger, as he and Teodor Giusca were named ACC Doubles Team of the Week last season after defeating Charlotte’s No. 16 pair.
Azuma registered two ranked wins in three days this past weekend, defeating South Alabama’s No. 123 Collard and Nebraska’s No. 75 Hietaranta to remain undefeated in singles play thus far. During the stretch he also continued playing excellent in doubles play, beating Nebraska’s line 1 pair of Wiedenhorn and Maruyama.
“What a nice accomplishment for Ryuhei to be voted ACC Player of the Week,” said Head Coach Robbie Weiss. “To get two ranked wins this past weekend was impressive. He definitely had to work for both of those wins. Really happy and proud of Ryuhei.”
Azuma and the Tigers look to Friday as they will take on in-state rival South Carolina for a chance at a point in the Palmetto Series at 5 p.m.
