Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina men’s tennis junior Daniel Rodrigues was named to CoSIDA’s Academic All-America Second Team, the organization announced Tuesday.
The Academic All-America team recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom.
Rodrigues, a Funchal, Portugal, native completed his degree in psychology this spring and graduated with the highest GPA on the men’s tennis team. As a team captain, he led the Gamecocks to a 23-7 dual season and an appearance in the NCAA Round of 16 for the second consecutive year.
The junior finished the season as an ITA All-American in both singles in doubles following his run at the NCAA Tournament. Rodrigues ended the singles season ranked No. 3 in the county which ties for highest final ranking in program history.
He also ended the season at No. 6 in doubles with partner Connor Thomson after their historic run to the semifinal round of the NCAA Doubles Tournament. Their ranking is the highest final ranking by a doubles pair in program history.
Rodrigues is the program’s first CoSIDA Academic All-American since Jerome Jordan in 2000 and is only the third player in program history to receive the honor.
