Rodenas Represents Spain at Wimbledon Junior Championships

WIMBLEDON, London – Incoming men’s tennis freshman Pedro Rodenas represented his home country of Spain and Duke at the 2022 Wimbledon Junior Championships.

“Representing Spain here in Wimbledon was an unreal experience, especially on the doubles side where I was playing with Martin (Landaluce), who is also from Spain,” Rodenas said. “This type of results in the biggest tennis event in the world gives me a lot of confidence in the upcoming tournaments at the pro tour and collegiate season. It’s been unreal having Ramsey (Smith) here for all my matches and supporting me. It’s helped us both to understand where we want to go in my upcoming time at Duke.”

He advanced to the boys’ singles semifinals before dropping a hard-fought 7-5, 6-2 decision to the overall No. 3 seed Mili Poljicak of Croatia. To get to the semifinals, the Madrid, Spain, battled his way through the impressive field by defeating Matej Dodig of Croatia, No. 2 seed Jakub Mensik of Czech Republic, No. 14 seed Bor Artnak of Slovenia and Kalin Ivanovski of North Macedonia.

Rodenas also competed with country-mate Martin Landaluce in the boys’ doubles event. The pair secured a spot in the semifinals before falling in super tie-break fashion 6-7 (6), 6-2, 11-9 to Sebastian Gorzny and Alex Michelsen of the United States. The duo was on the winning end of a super tie-break just one match prior when they upset No. 4 seed Gilles Bailly of Belgium and Jakub Nicod of Czech Repblic 6-3, 3-6, 10-5 for their quarterfinal win.

Rodenas is set to officially join the Blue Devils in August to begin his collegiate career.
