Qualifying is going to be huge at Roland-Garros this year.

That’s due to the fact that wild cards were announced on Tuesday, and Dominic Thiem and Diego Schwartzman were not on the list.

Thiem, ranked 117, and Schwartzman, ranked 142, had hoped to be granted a wild card into the main draw, but the FFT granted its remaining wild cards – besides those granted on reciprocal agreements to the US and Australia – to French players.

Both Thiem and Schwartzman have adequate ranking to participate in the qualifying draw.

On the men’s side Richard Gasquet, Terrence Atmane, Pierre-Hugues Herbert, Harold Mayot, Giovanni Mpetschi Perricard, Alexandre Muller, Nicolas Moreno de Alboran and Adam Walton received main draw wild cards.

On the women’s side, Alize Cornet, Fiona Ferro, Elsa Jacquemot, Kristina Mladenovic, Chloe Paquet, Jessica Ponchet, Ajla Tomljanovic and Sachia Vickery received wild cards.

Former champion Simona Halep, ranked 1149 as she makes her way back from a doping ban, was also left off the list. The tournament set a precedent in 2017 when they didn’t grant two-time champion Maria Sharapova a wild card as she returned from her doping ban.

Qualifying at Roland Garros commences on Monday May 20, while main draw play kicks off on Sunday May 26.
