Gailis was the clincher for the Gators against Baylor on Sunday.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Rachel Gailis secured her first Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week honor following a strong outing at Baylor, the SEC announced Wednesday afternoon.
Gailis completed a perfect day in Waco with victories in both singles and doubles competition. Matched-up against Shcherbinina/Thompson of Baylor (RV) in doubles, the No. 58 squad of Bente Spee and Gailis secured a 6-3 win to open the day. The freshman then earned a straight-set, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Danielle Tuhten at the five singles slot to clinch the match for the Orange & Blue and improve to 3-0 in dual singles competition, all without dropping a set in her victories. The freshman also boasts a perfect 2-0 mark in dual doubles matches as well.
Gailis and the Gators will be back in action on Thursday, Feb. 9, when Florida State heads to Gainesville for a 4:30 p.m. ET showdown at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.
