WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue women’s tennis lost to No. 3 Michigan at home following nail-biting doubles matches.
Freshman Kennedy Gibbs and sophomore Juana Larranaga logged another win at doubles. The duo defeated Kari Miller and Merri Kelly from Michigan 6-3 in the No. 3 match. Gibbs and Larranaga have been playing doubles together almost every match this season and have won 12 matches including today.
At No. 2 doubles, senior Csilla Fodor and sophomore Carmen Gallardo Guevara came close to beating the No. 78 doubles team of Julia Fliegner and Lily Jones.
In singles, Gallardo Guevara proved she was not going down without a fight. The sophomore fought back against Andrea Cerdan from Michigan after originally being down to start the first set. The Spaniard tied the match at 6-6 and was leading the tiebreak 4-2 when play was finished.
