Penn State Women's Tennis Competes at Day 3 of ITA Atlantic Regionals


BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Penn State women’s tennis team face play in the third day of the ITA Atlantic Regionals. Round of 16 main draw singles and rounds of 32 and 16 main draw doubles were competed throughout the day. Additionally, consolation matches took place. 
 
ROUND OF 32 MAIN DRAW DOUBLES 
 
Sofiya Chekhlystova and Oliva Dorner defeated Shahar Biran and Alesya Yakubovich of Old Dominion 8-7 (7-3). The pair advanced on to the round of 16 main draw doubles. 
 
Yvonne Zuffova and Carla Girbau were unsuccessful in their match against Emma Vanderheyden and Johanna Strom of Marshall 8-2. 
 
Karly Friedland and Ioana Gheorghita fell to Camilla Bossi and Ting-Pei Chang of West Virginia 8-2. 
 
ROUND OF 16 MAIN DRAW DOUBLES 
 
Chekhlystova and Dorner declared victory over Gabrielle Clairotte and Rieke Gillar of Marshall 8-0.
 
ROUND OF 16 MAIN DRAW SINGLES
 
Zuffova lost her match to Tatsiana Sasnouskaya of Old Dominion 6-3, 7-5.
 
CONSOLATION
 
Dorner prevailed in her match against Jojo Bach of Maryland 6-1, 5-7, [10-3].
 
Gheorghita defeated Momoko Nagato of West Virginia 6-2, 6-0.
 
Alina Lebedeva was unsuccessful against Ting-Pei Chang of West Virginia 4-6, 6-3, [10-6].
 
NEXT UP 
 
The quarterfinal and semifinal rounds of main draw doubles will take place. Additionally, the quarterfinal round of main draw singles and consolation rounds for both singles and doubles will occur. 
 
Chekhlystova and Dorner will compete in the quarterfinal round of doubles against Momoko Nagato and Michaela Kucharova of West Virginia.
