UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State women’s tennis (2-2) fell to No. 8 NC State, 4-0, to conclude day one of play at ITA Kickoff Weekend on Saturday.
Doubles
NC State earned the doubles point to take the early lead. The Wolfpack secured the early advantage with a 6-2 win from Nell Miller and Jaeda Daniel over Penn State’s Karly Friedland and Alexandra Nielsen. On court No. 2. Nittany Lion duo Sofiya Chekhlystova and Gabrielle O’Gorman were defeated by Amelia Rajecki and Abigail Rencheli of NC State, 6-2.
On court No.3, the match between Yvonna Zuffova and Olivia Ryan and NC State’s Sara Nayar and Priska Nugroho went unfinished, with the Nittany Lion duo leading, 5-3.
Singles
NC State’s lead extended throughout singles play with three wins to clinch the match.
On court No.1, Chekhlystova fell to eighth-ranked player nationally in Daniel of NC State, 6-4, 6-0. Zuffova put up a tough battle against No. 25 Abigail Rencheli. Zuffova came up just short in the first set, 6-4. The battle continued into the second set, but Recheli collected the win, 7-6 (7-2). Lebedeva fell short of Miller on court No. 4, 7-5, 6-0.
The remainder of the singles matches were left unfinished.
