Tournament Home and Draws | Nordstrom Live Video and Scoring
SEATTLE – Six days of action at the Nordstrom Tennis Center began early this morning as the ITA Northwest Championships kicked off with qualifying rounds. The tournament, which will send two singles players and one doubles team on to the NCAA Championships, enters main draw play on Friday.
Huskies Brett Pearson and Rohan Belday will join five more teammates in the main draw, as they advanced through qualifying today.
Pearson, starting his junior season, had a first round bye and then defeated Oregon’s Russell Soohoo, 6-2, 6-7, 6-2 to advance.
Belday, a freshman from West Orange, New Jersey, made his collegiate debut today and posted not one but two wins. In the first round he beat Eduardo Gonzalez of UC Davis, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4. He then took out Hubert Theriault of Portland State, 6-2, 6-1, to reach the main draw.
Also debuting today was freshman Nikola Plavsic, but he dropped his first match against Nicholas Miharu Bowles-Rokudo of Sacramento State, 6-1, 6-3.
Play will begin again at 8 a.m. on Friday at the Nordstrom. Along with Belday and Pearson, the main draw will also feature Cesar Bouchelaghem, Soham Purohit, Ivan Sodan, Nedim Suko, and Dzianis Zharyn.
