Pair of Lady Vols Ready for NCAA Individual Championships

STILLWATER, Okla. – Two members from the Tennessee women’s tennis team are set to compete in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships at Greenwood Tennis Center. Singles competition will begin on Monday, with doubles starting on Tuesday.

No. 14 Sofia Cabezas will represent the Big Orange in the 64-person singles field. The Valencia, Venezuela, native was tabbed a First Team All-SEC selectee and has notched 12 wins while competing at UT’s No. 1 singles spot and collected 13 wins atop the doubles lineup. Throughout this season, Cabezas has defeated eight ranked singles opponents. Her singles success includes victories over three top-10 opponents.

Cabezas will face No. 67 Annabelle Xu of Virginia on Monday at 3:30 p.m. ET.

In doubles, the No. 11th-ranked duo of Cabezas and Elza Tomase is set to compete in the 32-pair draw. Together, they sport a 13-4 record and have knocked off four ranked opponents, including a win against two duos ranked at the No. 9 spot.

Tomase, an All-SEC Second Team nominee, has been a constant on the All-SEC teams, making it on the charts in each of the last three seasons. She is the 10th player in program history to be recognized three times on the All-SEC Teams, having earned first-team honors in 2023 and second-team acclaim in 2022.

The pair will take on No. 8 Elaine Chervinsky and Melodie Collard of Virginia on Tuesday. The time of this match will be announced later on.

This is the 24th time in program history Tennessee will have a doubles team compete at the NCAA Doubles Championships, including the first since 2022.
