Carl Emil Overbeck, who competed in the ITA All-American Championships last week in Oklahoma, had a strong outing in the Tiburon Challenger on Monday in the Bay Area.

TIBURON – California men’s tennis senior Carl Emil Overbeck pushed professional player Dennis Kudla to three sets in the first round of the singles main draw on Monday at the Tiburon Challenger, a tournament on the ATP Challenger Tour. But the Golden Bear fell 7-6(4), 6-7(3), 6-4 at the Tiburon Peninsula Club.

Overbeck had an impressive performance, compiling a 20-10 advantage in aces against the 224th-ranked player in the world.

The Cal veteran earned wild-card entry into the tournament when he captured the singles title at the Battle in the Bay Classic on Sept. 15. Overbeck is also slated to compete in the Solano Challenger – formerly known as the Fairfield Challenger – after earning wild-card entry into that tournament by winning a singles shootout during the Battle in the Bay Classic. The Solano Challenger begins on Sunday.

Most of the Bears will compete in the San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic from Friday through Sunday at the University of San Diego.
