Oregon Falls at No. 14 Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Okla. – Facings its first ranked and road test of the season, Oregon fell to 14th-ranked Oklahoma State to open the ITA Kickoff Weekend Saturday afternoon, 4-0, at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
 
The Ducks (2-1) faced an Oklahoma State lineup that featured three players in the latest ITA rankings in No. 72 Sofia Rojas, No. 108 Alana Wolfberg and No. 121 Raquel Gonzaelez.
 
Freshman Jo-Yee Chan took Gonzalez to a third set but went unfinished, as the match was clinched by the Cowgirls. Petchy forced a tiebreaker in the opening set against Wolfberg. Playing at the No. 1 singles position, Sophie Luescher dropped a tight first set 7-5 before the match was finalized.
 
After claiming the doubles point, OSU earned straight-set wins at positions 3-5 to decide the match and move onto Sunday’s title match against No. 16 Michigan. Rojas overtook Ares Teixido Garcia 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles and Lucia Peyre defeated Karin Young at the fourth position, 6-0, 6-4.
 
Uxia Martinez Moral, playing at five singles, was ousted by OSU’s Ayumi Miyamoto, 6-0, 6-4.
 
The Cowgirls (2-0) sealed 6-3 victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, with Peyre and Miyamoto defeating Luescher and Martinez Moral at first doubles and Rojas and Gonzalez besting Young and Petchey.
 
Chan and Teixido Garcia went unfinished in their matchup with Kristina Novak and Wolfberg, with the score sitting at 5-3.
 
The Ducks wrap up the ITA Kickoff Weekend against Kansas in Sunday’s consolation match, with action starting at 8 a.m. PT at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
