ROME, G.A. — Syracuse begins postseason play against No. 24 Wake Forest in this week’s ACC Tournament in Rome, Georgia. The Orange earned a first-round bye as the No. 10 seed and will face the No. 7 seed Demon Deacons in the second round. Syracuse (10-10, 4-9) previously lost to Wake Forest (15-9, 7-6) in March at the Drumlins Tennis Club.

The Orange reached the 10-win mark for the fourth time in the past eight years under coach Younes Limam with an upset victory over No. 35 Florida State. ‘Cuse’s fourth ACC win came in dramatic fashion with Ines Fonte clinching the match in a three-set victory. Syracuse rose to No. 59 in the ITA’s rankings, its highest position of 2022, following the win at FSU.

‘Cuse is well represented in the national doubles rankings as well. The red-hot duo of Miyuka Kimoto and Polina Kozyreva is ranked No. 37 after winning four of their last five matches together, including three ranked victories over the ITA’s No. 31, 35, and 68 pairings. Kimoto and Kozyreva are 5-1 out of the top doubles position and will likely face the No. 7 duo of Anna Brylin and Brooke Killingsworth in Thursday’s match. Wake Forest’s No. 34 pair of Samantha Martinelli and Casie Wooten are likely to face Syracuse’s Sofya Treshcheva and Shiori Ito, who have ranked as high as No. 50 this spring.

Polina Kozyreva earned the Orange’s only point in March’s match against the Demon Deacons. The win came in her first ever start out of the No. 2 singles position and was her tenth of a career high 11 spring victories. Kozyreva tied with freshman Shiori Ito for the most singles wins of the regular season, and Miyuka Kimoto joined the two in a three-way tie for the most wins across singles and doubles competition this spring at 22.

The winner of Thursday’s match will advance to the tournament’s quarterfinal round and face the second seed, No. 5 Duke, on Friday at 6 p.m.
