SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame men’s tennis team will return to action this weekend to take on the University of Illinois in Champaign on Saturday night. After a week without matches, the Irish will play an evening match against the Illini at 7 p.m. ET.
Last year, Notre Dame swept Illinois 4-0 in a match played at the Eck Tennis Pavilion. After taking the doubles points, wins at #1, #3 and #5 singles would seal the victory for the Irish. Current graduate student Addy Vashistha picked up the straight set win at the third singles position last year and will look to do the same again this year.
The Irish come into the contest with a 5-2 record on the year, most recently splitting matches at ITA Kickoff Weekend with a win over Washington before falling to Kentucky. The Illini enter this weekend with a 6-4 record having most recently ventured to ACC territory where they took a pair of losses to Duke and North Carolina.
