Following a successful fall opener at home last weekend, the Husky women’s tennis team hits the road for the first time for a big weekend at Stanford, as ITA Northwest Regionals assembles large and talented fields including five Pac-12 teams. A day of qualifying matches takes place today, Oct. 13, with the main draws in singles and doubles going from Oct. 14-18. Winners of the tournament earn automatic bids to the ITA Fall National Championships.
The huge field has 128 singles players and 64 doubles pairs. Along with the Huskies, Pac-12 teams include the host Stanford Cardinal, California, Oregon, and Washington State, along with many more teams from the WCC, WAC, Big Sky and Mountain West conferences.
Huskies in the main singles draw include Ashley Chang, Sarah-Maude Fortin, Jennifer Kerr, Erika Matsuda, Astrid Olsen, Melissa Sakar, and Hikaru Sato. Yolanda Lin is entered in the singles qualifying draw and will look to play her way into the main draw. Fortin is the No. 8 overall seed in singles and Sato is one of eight No. 9 seeds.
In doubles, Fortin and Olsen are seeded No. 8. Lin and Chang will team together, as will Sato and Sakar, and Kerr with Matsuda.
