CORAL GABLES, Fla. – For the second time in a row, Alexa Noel of the University of Miami women’s tennis team is the ACC Player of the Week, as announced Tuesday afternoon by the league office.
This is the third distinction of 2023 for Noel, who also claimed the season-opening recognition back on Jan. 17.
Noel guided No. 13 Miami (9-2, 4-1 ACC) to two top-20 victories over the weekend, one over a top-five foe and the other a sweep. The Hurricanes edged then-fifth-ranked NC State, 4-3, Friday afternoon and followed that with a 7-0 shutout of then-No. 19 Wake Forest two days later.
A redshirt sophomore ranked No. 13 nationally, Noel won both of her singles matches in straight sets against top-40 players at the No. 1 position.
First, she took down No. 35 Diana Shnaider of NC State, a top-100 player in the WTA rankings, in a dominant 6-4, 6-1 decision. She then rolled past No. 38 Casie Wooten of Wake Forest, 6-0, 6-1.
Noel also logged one doubles victory, teaming with junior Isabella Pfennig to defeat Wake Forest’s Anna Brylin and Jingyi Li, 6-4.
This spring, Noel is 12-2 in singles and 10-3 in doubles. That includes 9-2 and 9-1 respective records in dual matches.
Noel and her Miami teammates resume play Sunday at 1 p.m. ET in Bryan-College Station, Texas, where they face second-ranked Texas A&M.
