No. 8 Gators will Face In-State Rivals at College MatchDay


The Gators will take on the Seminoles this Saturday at 5 p.m. in this year’s College MatchDay. The event will be hosted at the USTA National Campus and is free admission for all. 

LAKE NONA, FL. – The No. 8 ranked Gators will head to the USTA National Campus on Saturday evening to take on Florida State under the lights. The Gators will begin play at 5 p.m. and will be among four teams selected to participate in the 2024 College MatchDay event.
 
Florida will look to tally their fourth win of the season against the Seminoles on Saturday night. Florida State is currently not ranked but has two doubles pairs in the top 50: No. 43 Victoria Allen/Millie Bissett and No. 48 Ellie Schoppe/Maelie Monfils. Overall Florida State is 2-1 with wins over Old Dominion (4-3) and SMU (4-2), but loss to No. 10 ranked Texas (0-4) in their loss time out.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Gators will enter this weekend undefeated, securing a 6-1 victory over Baylor to initiate the start of spring play on Jan. 20, followed by back-to-back wins last weekend. Florida’s most recent contests resulted in wins over Florida International 4-2, and No. 20 San Diego 4-3 to put the Gators record at 3-0 and claim the ITA Kickoff Weekend Championship.

ITA RANKINGS

Florida finds itself ranked No. 8 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings. Three Gators are ranked in singles competition: Emily De Oliveria at No. 23, Carly Briggs at No. 38, and Rachel Gailis sitting at No. 63. On the doubles side, Malwina Rowinska/ Qavia Lopez are ranked at No. 38 and Bente Spee/Sara Dahlstrom sit at No. 55.
