No. 8 Duke Defeats No. 11 Miami, 4-3, to Open Weekend

DURHAM – On Friday afternoon at Ambler Tennis Stadium, the eighth-ranked Duke women’s tennis team registered a 4-3 victory over 11th-ranked Miami to win their eighth-straight contest, while improving to 19-2 overall and 8-1 in ACC action.  

The win marked the 23rd-consecutive home victory for the Blue Devils and dropped Miami to 11-4 overall and 6-2 in ACC play.  

How It Happened

•    Duke came out and was very impressive in doubles as the Blue Devils won all three matches to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

•    Playing in just their second contest together, Karolina Berankova and Emma Jackson registered a 6-1 win over 53rd-ranked Alexa Noel and Isabella Pfennig on court two.

•    On court one, the Blue Devil duo of No. 32 Chloe Beck and Cameron Morra collected a 6-2 win over Daevenia Achong and Maya Tahan to clinch the doubles point.

•    Duke also received a win from Georgia Drummy and Iuliia Bryzgalova, 6-2, over Audrey Boch-Collins and Mia Mack on court three.  

•    The Blue Devils continued their momentum into singles on courts two and four with quick wins by Morra and Drummy to take a 3-0 lead.

•    Drummy totaled a 6-3, 6-2 win over Boch-Collins on court four, while No. 70 Morra totaled a 6-2, 6-4 win over No. 118 Achong on court two.
