ROSEMONT, Ill. – Coming off a perfect weekend, Maria Sholokhova of women’s tennis has earned Big Ten Player of the Week, announced by the conference on Wednesday.
The first weekly honor of the season and second career for Sholokhova, the sophomore from Sochi, Russia, went 4-0 in competition over the weekend, claiming a pair of both doubles and singles victories.
Playing at No. 1 singles, Sholokhova is on an 11-match winning streak and is undefeated in Big Ten play. She currently sits at No. 78 in the ITA rankings.
In doubles play, Sholokhova is 6-3 at No. 1. During Sunday’s match, Sholokhova and her partner, Xinyu Cai, clinched the point for the Badgers, posting a 7-5 score.
No. 30 Wisconsin returns to action this Friday at Northwestern. The dual match is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. CT in Evanston, Ill.
