LOS ANGELES – The No. 7 ranked USC men’s tennis team recorded a win to open the 2024 dual season, defeating UCI 7-0 on Friday, January 19 at Marks Tennis Stadium.
USC freshman Volodymyr Iakubenko won big during his Marks Stadium debut, claiming the first doubles match alongside graduate student Samuel Rubell and won from the number four spot in singles play.
USC’s Peter Makk and Lodewijk Weststrate came back from down five games in the set and clinched the doubles point with seven-straight game victories.
The Trojans swept the Anteaters in singles as Stefan Dostanic, No. 39 Makk, No. 73 Weststrate, Iakubenko, No. 94 Karl Lee, and Rubell all recorded singles wins. Dostanic clinched the match as the third singles finisher.
Against the Anteaters, USC hauled in the doubles point and subsequently recorded six-straight singles wins to secure their first dual victory of the season.
The Trojans are back in action at 2 p.m. next Saturday, January 27, at Marks Stadium as they host SMU in the first round of the ITA Kickoff Weekend.
