No. 60 Women’s Tennis Drops Match to Michigan State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The No. 60 Penn State women’s tennis team (11-12, 3-6 B1G) dropped an away match to Michigan State (9-13, 2-9 B1G) on the road, 4-3.
 
DOUBLES
 
The Michigan State women’s tennis team struck first and took the doubles point. 
 
At No. 2, Karly Friedland and Alexandra Nielsen fell to Issey Purser and Nicole Conard, 6-0.
 
Sofiya Chekhlystova and Carla Girbau answered back to tie Penn State with Michigan State in doubles matches. The pair defeated Ayshe Can and Liisa Vehvilainen, 6-2. 
 
However, Ioana Gheorghita and Alina Lebedeva dropped a tough fought match to Dagmar Zdrubecka and Juliette Nask for Michigan State to take the point, 7-5. 
 
SINGLES
 
Karly Friedland dropped her match against Juliette Nask, 6-0, 6-2, to allow Michigan State to go up 2-0. 
 
The Blue and White answered back with winning the next two singles matches. Olivia Dorner defeated Marley Lambert 6-3, 6-3 and No. 63 Sofiya Chekhlystova took her match over Ayshe Can, 7-6, 6-2. 
 
Alina Lebedeva fell to Dagmar Zdrubecka, 7-6, 6-3. 
 
Ioana Gheorghita allowed Penn State to tie the match again, 3-3, with her win over Issey Purser, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. 
 
However, the Nittany Lions ultimately lost the match when Yvonne Zuffova fell to Liisa Vehvilainen, 6-7, 6-3, 6-3.
