No. 55 Women’s Tennis Sweeps Indiana

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women’s tennis team swept Indiana, 7-0, in a Big Ten match up on Sunday, March 26. The Nittany Lions advance to 10-9 overall and 2-3 in conference play. 
 
DOUBLES
 
The Blue and White took over the match against the Hoosiers early by clinching the doubles point. Ioana Gheorghita and Alina Lebedeva easily defeated Mila Mejic and Lauren Lemonds, 6-1, to give Penn State the advantage. 
 
Sofiya Chekhlystova and Carla Girbau extended their doubles win streak to four matches by winning their match over Saby Nihalani and Lara Schneider to clinch the doubles point.
 
Alexandra Nielsen and Yvonna Zuffova were down 5-4 when their match was left unfinished versus Alex Staiculescu and Nicole Teodosecu.
 
SINGLES
 
Karly Friedland quickly won the first singles match for Penn State against Rose Hu, 6-4, 6-1. Yvonne Zuffova allowed the Nittany Lions to become one match away from clinching the match with her 6-0, 6-4 win over Saby Nihalani.
 
At No. 1, Sofiya Chekhlystova clinched the win versus Indiana for the Blue and White with her defeat of Lara Schneider 7-5, 6-0.
 
Ioana Gheorghita added to the victory with her 6-3, 7-5 win against Mila Mejic. At No. 5, Ioana Gheorghita defeated Alex Staiculescu, 6-4, 6-4. Olivia Dorner finished the sweep with her successful match over Nicole Teodosescu, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.
