No. 25 Women’s Tennis Takes Down Cal Poly

Ohio State

TEMPE, Ariz.- No. 25 Arizona State (6-3) led Cal Poly (4-3) from start to finish, defeating the Mustangs 4-0 on Sunday to finish the two-game weekend homestand on a winning note. The Sun Devils have now won five of six home matches at Whiteman Tennis Center this season.

“Tough loss yesterday,” head coach Sheila Mclnerney said. “But I thought our kids didn’t play the greatest doubles point, but rebounded really well and got off to really good starts in singles and just kept their foot on the gas pedal.”

ASU took care of business in doubles to gain an early 1-0 lead over Cal Poly. Senior Giulia Morlet and freshman Sara Svetac won the first doubles match 6-2 on court two. On court three, freshman Emilija Tverijonaite served the game-winning point alongside senior Marianna Argyrokastriti in their 6-2 victory, to secure the doubles point.

In singles, ASU went ahead 2-0 after Morlet’s court one victory. She didn’t concede a game, winning 6-0, 6-0. Tverijonaite won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0, on court four to extend the Sun Devils’ lead to 3-0 and put ASU within one match of victory. Junior Patricija Spaka clinched the win on court six in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0.
