AMES, Iowa – The No. 22 Wisconsin women’s tennis team (20-6) beat No. 41 LSU in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday in Ames, Iowa. It is the first time since 2002 the Badgers have won a game in the NCAA Tournament.
Taylor Cataldi and Charmaine Seah began doubles play by beating Noor Carrington and Nikita Vishwase 6-2. Xinyu Cai and Alina Mukhortova proceeded to clinch the doubles point for Wisconsin after beating Mia Rabinowitz and Anastasiya Komar 6-3.
Singles play started with a retirement from LSU after No. 120 Cai was leading against Vishwase 5-2. Cataldi put on a dominating performance against Nina Geissler, winning 6-0, 6-2. Mukhortova sealed the win for the Badgers, being victorious against Mia Rabinowitz, 6-3, 7-5.
Next up, the Badgers will play Iowa State on Saturday at 1 p.m. (CT) in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
