No. 22 NC State begins final home stretch Friday versus Virginia Tech


RALEIGH NC State looks to get back on track this weekend, starting with a home match versus Virginia Tech on Friday (5:30 pm).

The Wolfpack has won seven in a row against the Hokies. NC State is currently tied for fourth in the ACC standings with Florida State.Β

The team is coming up on a stretch of four games in eight days to close out the regular season.Β

“It’s a great test for us,” head coach Kyle Spencer said. “We’ll let the chips fall where they may, but I think the guys are extremely excited about the opportunities presented.”

Last time out: NC State fell to No. 21 Duke, 5-2, on the road in Durham. The Wolfpack took the doubles point, but Duke won two of the first singles matches to gain some momentum. NC State’s lone singles victory came from freshman Martin Borisiouk.Β

Pack in the Rankings:Β  NC State comes in at No. 22 in the latest ITA Rankings. The doubles duo of Robin Catry and Luca Staeheli were ranked No. 15, while Joe Wayand and Rafa Izquierdo Luque were ranked No. 24. On the singles side Izquierdo Luque is ranked No. 61 and Staeheli came in at No. 70.

Scouting the Hokies: Virginia Tech (8-12, 2-6) is coming off a 5-2 loss to Michigan State. Ryan Fishback is ranked No. 46 in the ITA Singles Ranking. Fishback and Jordan Chrysostom are ranked No. 38 in doubles. Fishback and Alberto Orso are ranked No. 63.
