No. 22 Men's Tennis Visits Alabama


EVANSTON, Ill. – No. 24 Northwestern men’s tennis travels south to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to take on the Crimson Tide on Sunday, February 12 at 11 a.m. CT.

Last weekend, the Wildcats split dual matches against No. 18 Harvard and No. 25 Duke.

On Friday night, the Wildcats fell to the Crimson, 5-2. At #5 Singles, Presley Thieneman defeated No. 110 Marc Kitri, 6-4, 6-0. At #4 Singles, Trice Pickens defeated Steven Sun, 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) for the only other Wildcat win of the match.

The ‘Cats bounced back on Sunday against a solid Duke squad, taking the doubles point behind wins from Forman/Nordby and Pickens/Spear. At #1 Singles, Steven Forman defeated Garrett Johns, 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-4). At #5 Singles, Presley Thieneman roared back after dropping the first set to take down Faris Khan, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. At #6 Singles, Gleb Blekher did the same, taking down Michael Heller, 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 to clinch the match for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats moved up one spot in this week’s ITA Team Rankings to No. 22. Steven Forman was the lone Wildcat ranked in the ITA Singles rankings, earning a No. 46 ranking.

The Crimson Tide boast a 6-1 record on the season, with the lone loss coming at the hands of No. 19 Columbia. Two members of the Crimson Tide made appearances in the most recent ITA Singles Rankings. Enzo Aguiard ranks No. 39 nationally, while Filip Paninsek ranks No. 119 for the Tide.

Following this weekend’s matchup, Northwestern will continue its road swing when it heads to Clemson to take on the Tigers on Sunday, February 19 at 11 a.m. CT.
