No. 21 Badgers bounce back against No. 70 Wildcats

MADISON, Wis. – The No. 21 Wisconsin women’s tennis team (16-5) finished its weekend on a high, beating No. 70 Northwestern 4-0 at home on Sunday.
 
The Badgers came out swinging against Northwestern, applying pressure from the get-go. To start off doubles action, Charmaine Seah and Taylor Cataldi defeated Sydney Pratt and Aino Alkio, 6-1. To follow that up, Ava Markham and Maria Sholokhova won their doubles match, 6-1, against Maria Shusharina and Briana Crowley. It was trending towards Xinyu Cai and Alina Mukhortova beating their second ranked doubles team in two days, but their match was abandoned against No. 39 Christina Hand and Justine Leong after leading 4-3.
 
Cataldi kept the momentum going for Wisconsin, winning the first singles match 6-2, 6-1 against Crowley. Markham gave the Badgers their third point overall, beating Leong 6-3, 6-2. Finally, Seah sealed the win for the team off a well hit ace, beating Alkio 6-2, 6-1.
 
Next up, Wisconsin plays Indiana at Nielsen on Friday, April 21 at 5 p.m. (CT). It is the second-to-last match of the season for the team. The Big Ten Tournament commences the following week, starting on April 26.
