FLUSHING– Arizona State Men’s Tennis (5-2) travels to The Big Apple this weekend to compete at the ITA National Men’s Tennis Indoor Championships after the team qualified for the Sweet 16 at the end of January by defeating No. 25 FSU and VCU. The first round match will take place on Friday, February 16 at 7:00 a.m. MST when the Sun Devils take on No. 2 TCU (6-0) at the UTSA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The match will be streamed here.
ASU will play in three matches this weekend regardless of win/loss, but a win would have the Sun Devils taking on either No. 7 South Carolina or No. 10 Texas A&M in the quarterfinals on Saturday, February 17 at 10 a.m. MST. With a loss, ASU would fall into the consolation bracket.
After a road trip to California to take on Pepperdine and University of San Diego to open the month of February, the Sun Devils split the trip 1-1, and have not competed since.
During the team’s break, the ITA released doubles and singles rankings on February 7, which had senior Max McKennon and freshman Bor Artnak sitting at #14 in the doubles rankings. The duo is 7-0 to open the season and took down the previous #15 duo Stian Klaassen/Sacchitt Sharrma of San Diego.
The Sun Devils have a pair of student athletes in the top 125 with Junior Murphy Cassone sitting at #10 and Artnak at #78. Both guys have a team-high four singles wins along with McKennon who also has four.
