ORLANDO – The No. 20 Tennessee women’s tennis team recorded a 4-0 shutout victory over UCF on Friday evening at the UTSA National Campus. The Lady Volunteers continued their undefeated streak against the Knights, posting their fifth win in as many chances in the series.
“Overall, I felt like our girls did a fantastic job of coming out and competing from start to finish,”head coach Alison Ojeda said. “UCF is a very good team, so we knew for sure that we were going to be battling on every single court. I think the girls have continued to do a really good job of showing that we know how to play doubles. Very proud of our team.”
Tennessee (7-2) registered the doubles point against UCF (1-4) after securing back-to-back wins on courts two and three. No. 53 Alana Wolfberg and Esther Adeshina defeated Olivia Lincer and Jantje Tilbuerger, 6-3. Lauren Anzalotta and Catherine Aulia added the second win via a 6-3 triumph against Stefani Webb and Sophia Biolay. The Lady Vols claimed the doubles point for the eighth time this season.
Singles action featured a tight match on every court, but the Big Orange came out victorious and notched three singles wins. On court four, No. 83 Aulia grabbed the first singles victory after downing Noel Saidenova in a 6-2, 6-2 result. No. 31 Sofia Cabezas put away Sophia Biolay, 6-2, 6-4, on court one. No. 125 Lauren Anzalotta secured the final win against Jalessa Leslie, 6-4, 6-3.
“It was really tough today, but I think we all were very mentally tough,” Aulia said. “We were all really close to finishing. So, to get the first win, I think it was really helpful to them and it sent a message to them to keep pushing and get the job done.”
