No. 14 MSU Set For Senior Day Against Arkansas

STARKVILLE – No. 14 Mississippi State will close out its regular season home slate on Sunday by hosting 60th-ranked Arkansas at 1 p.m.

Prior to the match, the Bulldogs will also honor four departing players who have been instrumental in the team’s success this season and beyond – Patrick Lazo, Ewen Lumsden, Gregor Ramskogler and Seth Richey.

Ramskogler is MSU’s all-time leader in career dual match doubles wins with 61 and ranks third with 83 overall doubles victories. Lumsden, who transferred in from Washington last fall, is currently the Bulldogs’ highest-ranked singles competitor at No. 93 and has won 10 of his last 12 matches and 15 of his last 18 since Jan. 22.

Lumsden also makes up one-half of the 73rd-ranked doubles team along with Petar Jovanovic.

Like Lumsden, Lazo also transferred in for his final season from Georgia State while Richey is wrapping up his tennis career as a redshirt sophomore and is set to graduate in the fall. Lazo and Richey have combined for nine wins the season, including one together as a doubles tandem.

Mississippi State (18-5, 6-4 SEC) is coming off back-to-back wins. The Bulldogs rallied back at then No. 52 Alabama 4-3 last Sunday and swept all six singles matches against 45th-ranked LSU at home on Friday.

Home has been extremely good to MSU and head coach Matt Roberts over the years. Between the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre and the Rula Tennis Pavilion, the Bulldogs are 14-1 this spring while Roberts has posted a 102-20 career record (83.6 percent) in those venues over his nine seasons at the helm.

In addition to Lumsden, Mississippi State also features No. 118 Nemanja Malesevic and No. 125 Carles Hernandez in its singles lineup. Malesevic is coming off a 7-5, 5-7, 6-4 victory over 78th-ranked Ronald Hohmann of LSU on Friday while Hernandez topped the Tigers’ 101st-ranked Chen Dong 4-6, 6-0, 6-2.

Malesevic and Hernandez also makeup the nation’s No. 59 doubles team.

Arkansas enters Sunday’s match at 12-11 overall and winless in conference play. The Razorbacks have dropped 10-straight SEC matches this spring and were swept 4-0 at No. 17 Auburn on Friday.
