LAKE NONA, Florida – The No. 12 Florida State men’s tennis team lost a close match to No. 15 Florida 4-2 on Thursday evening at USTA National Campus for College Matchday.
Florida State rallied after being down 1-0, after two straight-set victories in singles by Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc and Joshua Dous-Karpenschif put the Noles ahead 2-1.
Cornut-Chauvinc remains undefeated on the season at No. 1 after his dominant 6-1, 6-4 victory over Axel Nefve opened the scoring for the Seminoles. Cornut-Chauvinc is now 6-0, with five of those wins coming against ranked opponents.
Dous-Karpenschif’s 7-5, 6-2 victory on court No. 5 gave FSU a 2-1 lead. The Seminoles continued to battle, with Loris Pourroy staving off seven set points to clinch the first set on court No. 2 for the Noles.
With the match at 3-2 in favor of Florida, Florida State needed victories on courts two and four to come away with the victory. Pourroy was tied 6-6 in the second set at court No. 2, requiring a tiebreaker to win his match for the Seminoles.
FSU’s comeback efforts fell short after 93-ranked Jonah Braswell’s 7-6 (5), 6-3 victory on court No. 4 sealed the victory for the Gators.
Florida won the doubles point after winning 6-3 on Court No. 1, and 6-3 Court No. 2.
Florida State is now 5-2 on the season after Thursday’s match against Florida. The Seminoles return home to Tallahassee to play South Alabama at 4 p.m. on February 10th. Live stats and live video will be available on Seminoles.com.
