The No. 1 seed USC men’s tennis team is headed to the Pac-12 Championship final after defeating No. 4 seed Stanford 4-2 on Friday afternoon at Libbey Park.
The Trojans got off to a slow start, as Stanford was able to grab two wins in doubles play to secure the match’s first point. No. 52 Bradley Frye and Learner Tien were defeated 2-6 on court one, while Wojtek Marek and Peter Makk fell 7-6 (4) on court three. On court two, Ryan Colby and Stefan Dostanic defeated Aryan Chaudhary and Filip Kolasinski 6-3.
The Trojans boucned back quickly in singles play, scoring three consecutive points. No. 32 Dostanic fired first, taking down No. 4 Arthur Fery 6-1, 6-3 on court one. No. 100 Marek and No. 48 Makk scored the Trojans’ second and third points within moments of each other, as Marek defeated Neel Rajesh 6-2, 6-2 on court four and Makk took down No. 27 Max Basing 7-6 (3), 6-1.
Stanford was able to bring the score within one as No. 116 Frye was defeated 7-6 (1), 7-5 on court five, but the Trojans locked in the victory as Lodewijk Weststrate defeated Chaudhary 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 on court six.
With their victory, the Trojans advance to the tournament final where they’ll face No. 3 seed Utah. The match will begin at 6:00 p.m., Saturday evening at Libbey Park.
