No. 1 Women’s Tennis Defeats Virginia, 4-1

Charlottesville, Va. – The No. 1 Ranked Carolina women’s tennis team defeated No. 20 Virginia 4-1 at the Virginia Tennis Complex at the Boar’s Head Sports Club.
 
The Cavaliers took the early 1-0 lead, taking the doubles point with a 6-3 win from No. 7 Natasha Subhash/Elaine Chervinksy defeated No. 37 Reese Brantmeier/Elizabeth Scotty. No. 41 Melodie Collard/Julia Adams defeated No. 4 Fiona Crawley/Carson Tanguilig 6-3 to clinch the point.
 
In singles action, it was No. 56 Elizabeth Scotty getting the Tar Heels on the scoreboard defeating Sara Ziodato 6-3, 6-4.
 
No. 23 Anika Yarlagadda continued what Scotty had started, taking down No. 92 Hibah Shaikh of Virginia 6-4, 6-0 for the 2-1 lead.
 
The Heels took the 3-1 lead as No. 1 Fiona Crawley defeated No. 38 Julia Adams 7-5, 6-3 to claim the third singles point.
 
Carolina won the match 4-1 behind the first and third set victories for No. 7 Carson Tanguilig. She defeated Virginia’s Elaine Chervinsky 6-3,1-6, 6-2
 
The Tar Heels will face Virginia Tech on Sunday morning at 11 am. The 8-2 Hokies are coming off back-to-back wins last weekend over Liberty 5-2, and West Virginia 4-0. Tech lost to Duke 4-3, to open ACC Play earlier today.
