Nine ACC Women's Tennis Teams Heading to the NCAA Championship


GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Nine Atlantic Coast Conference women’s tennis teams were selected to the 2023 NCAA Championships. For the second year in a row, the ACC’s five top-16 seeds are the most of any league, and all five will host first- and second-round matches. The nine overall teams are tied for the most of any conference.
  
Top-seeded North Carolina, No. 3 NC State, No. 6 Duke, No. 12 Virginia, No. 14 Miami, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Notre Dame and Wake Forest all received bids, which were announced Monday evening by the NCAA.
 
North Carolina (29-1) is making its 24th straight NCAA appearance and will host Charleston Southern (16-7) in Chapel Hill. South Carolina State (12-7) is headed to Raleigh to face NC State (23-4) after the Wolfpack earned their 13th NCAA tournament bid. Duke (22-4) will host William and Mary (15-5) in the Blue Devils’ 21st overall NCAA Championship. Virginia (18-6) earned its 19th consecutive NCAA tournament bid and will host LIU (12-10). Miami (15-7) will host Boston University (19-4) in Coral Gables.

In other first-round matchups, Florida State (14-10) earned its 24th trip to the NCAA Championship and will face Illinois (18-9) in Athens, Georgia. Georgia Tech (15-9) will play UCF (11-11) in Gainesville, Florida. It is the Yellow Jackets’ 23rd straight NCAA appearance. Notre Dame (15-10) will take on Ball State (22-3) in Ann Arbor, Michigan in its first NCAA tournament appearance since 2017. Wake Forest (17-13), making its 22nd overall and seventh straight NCAA appearance, will play Arizona State (17-6) in Knoxville, Tennessee. 

  

First- and second-round competition takes place May 5-6 and features four teams playing in a single-elimination format. The winner of each site advances to super-regional competition May 12 or 13. Each super-regional site will feature two teams playing a single-elimination format. The super-regional winners advance to the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida, where the eight teams will compete for the national championship May 17-20. This year’s event will be conducted jointly with the NCAA Divisions II and III Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships and hosted by the University of Central Florida and the Greater Orlando Sports Commission.
