Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina women’s tennis concluded action at the Gamecock Shootout on Sunday by claiming one additional doubles win and a pair of singles wins.
In doubles, freshman Anna Kantor and junior Olympe Lancelot paired up together for the first time to take on Marshall’s Johanna Strom and Andjela Lopicic. After falling behind early, the Gamecock duo got in rhythm and were able to take the match 6-4.
In singles, both Gamecocks used the positive momentum to record wins. Lancelot defeated SMU’s Drew Morris 6-0, 6-2 while Kantor took down SMU’s Caroline McGinley 6-3, 0-6, 1-0(4).
Lancelot went 2-1 in singles at the Gamecock Shootout and now improves to 5-3 on the season. Kantor also went 2-1 in singles at the event, recording the first two singles wins of her career.
The end of the Gamecock Shootout marks the conclusion of fall play for most of the team, however graduate Ayana Akli and junior Sarah Hamner will represent South Carolina at the ITA Fall National Championships in San Diego, Calif.
Both Gamecocks earned their spot in the draw for advancing to the semifinals at the ITA All-American Championships at the beginning of the month. The Fall National Championships will run Nov. 1-5 at the Barnes Tennis Center.
