NASHVILLE, Tenn.— The Southeastern Conference men’s tennis postseason awards were announced on Friday and Commodore Nathan Cox was named to the All-Freshman Team. Cox joins six other Dores who have earned the honor, including current Vanderbilt men’s tennis associate head coach Ryan Lipman (2010).
Cox started his collegiate career competing at the No. 2 singles position but improved to the No. 1 position mid-season. Going into the SEC championships earlier this month, Cox was the only freshman in the conference rostered at the No. 1 singles position.
In doubles play, Cox went 19-12 alongside teammate Michael Ross. His doubles success included two five-match win streaks and defeats over Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Alabama, Texas A&M and Kentucky.
Notable victories for Cox this season include a straight-set defeat (6-3, 7-5) over No. 41 Noah Schachter of No. 21 Texas A&M in singles play and a 6-4 win over No. 66 Joshua Lapadat/JJ Mercer of No. 6 Kentucky in doubles play.
