To be continued.
Both Andy Murray and Stefanos Tsitispas will have a night to sleep on things before resuming their so far stellar second round encounter at Wimbledon.
Two-time Wimbledon champion Murray finds himself leading two sets to one 6-7(3), 7-6(2), 6-4 over the No. 5 seed Tsitsipas. The match was suspended due to the local council curfew that prohibits activity after 11 p.m in consideration for local residents.
The second round match lived up to its early billing as both men played exceptionally well delighting the partisan Centre Court crowd hoping that Murray could pull off the upset.
Yet Murray raised some question marks about his physical health in the late stages of the third set.
Murray, while serving to take the third set, slipped in the back of Centre Court and fell to the ground. Issuing a sharp cry of pain, Murray appeared to injured his groin or thigh. Fortunately for him, he managed to get back on his feet and serve out the potentially decisive third set at 6-4.
A few minutes later, both players agreed to call time on the match and resume things tomorrow after the scheduled Carlos Alcaraz and Alexandre Muller second round meeting.
Before that, the match proved to be an exciting and close encounter with each player showing off their very best in front of the Centre Court crowd.
After a very close first set, Tsitsipas used his forehand to great advantage to eventually take the opening set tiebreak.
The second set proved just as close. Yet, Murray who served well and kept his unforced errors to a minimum and pushed things to another tiebreak. On the third point, Tsitsipas netted a forehand that handed Murray an early mini-break that he held onto to eventually take the tiebreak and level with his opponent.
Murray then broke Tsitsipas at love at the start of the third set. Murray, who only had 10 unforced errors so far, held onto his break advantage to eventually close out the set 6-4 and take the two sets to love lead.
