On Tuesday, the Pac-12 Conference announced that junior Murphy Cassone was named men’s tennis Player of the Week after earning five wins in six matches at the Diablos College Invitational, including an upset over the then-#4 ranked ITA singles player, Ozan Baris of Michigan State. Cassone was ranked #9 going into last weekend, but moved up to #3 in the most recent ITA singles rankings released today.
Cassone is the first Sun Devil to be named to a Pac-12 weekly award this season, and picked up a win in all three doubles matches alongside teammate, senior Jacob Bullard. The duo’s doubles opponents included Boise State’s Jip Van Assendelft and Sam Sippel, Michigan State’s Ronald Hohmann and Taym Alazmeh, and Michigan’s Will Cooksey and Jacob Bickersteth.
