CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s team is set for multiple student-athletes to compete in the ITA All-American Championships. The tournament will take place at Cary, N.C. from Sept. 21-29. For information regarding live stats and streaming, visit the ITA website.
Graduates Sophia Hatton and Annabelle Davis, Sophomore Ria Bhakta and freshman standout Amelie Smejkalova will compete in singles. Hatton and Smejkalova will compete as a duo in doubles.
The tournament will produce 10 single qualifiers and four doubles team qualifiers for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship set to take place in November. A new aspect of the 2024 fall season is that singles and doubles champions will be crowned in the fall rather than after the team competition in the spring.
Four Tigers will see action at the tournament, looking to improve upon their standings following their first tournaments of the fall season. Hatton and No. 58 Bhakta went 2-1 on the weekend. Davis, returning from injury, went 0-3. Smejkalova similarly battled in the ITF San Rafael W35 Tournament, falling in both singles and doubles.
The Tigers look to have an athlete advance to the final round of the ITA All-American Championship tournament for the first time in 17 years. Ani Mijacika (2007) became the first Tiger in history to advance to the final round since the event began in 1983.
