MSU Women’s Tennis Collects Victories At Toledo Rocket Invite


Toledo, Ohio – Michigan State women’s tennis team kicked off its full-team Fall tournament season at the Toledo Rocket Invitational versus Toledo, DePaul, and Youngstown State. 

Matches started on Friday with doubles matches versus Youngstown State. The duo of junior Issey Purser and redshirt-sophomore Hanna Tsitavets, and the tandem of redshirt-sophomore Oriana Parkins-Godwin and sophomore Natalie Stansy took victories against Youngstown defeating the competition 6-3 and 6-2. 

Friday continued with singles matches against Toledo. Spartans Stasny (6-2, 6-1), Purser (6-2, 6-0) and freshman Amara Brahmbhatt (6-4, 6-2) defeated their Toledo opponents. 

The night finished with more singles matches versus Youngstown State. The Green and White were able to conquer the competition with Stansy (6-2, 6-2), Tsiavets (6-1, 6-1),  Purser (6-4, 6-1) and Brahmbhatt (6-0, 6-0) taking victories against their YSU competitors. 

Saturday morning began with doubles matches against DePaul. It was a hard-fought battle for the Spartans, but there were no victories. The day continued with more doubles matches against Toledo. The Stasny/Purser tandem took victory 6-2, with no other pairs being able to defeat their Toledo foes. 

The tournament concluded with singles matches versus DePaul. Purser, Brahmbhatt, Parkins-Godwin and Tsitavets all declared victory against their DePaul opponents, claiming four of the six matches. 

It was a hard-fought battle on the courts, with copious amounts of success to start out the season.

The Spartans will return to Ohio for their next action on October 10 for the ITA Midwest Regional Championships with players to be announced
