MSU Travels To LSU And Texas A&M


Mississippi State’s women’s tennis team has had four consecutive matches at home the past two weeks and is now preparing to hit the road for the last time during regular season play.

The Bulldogs will have two road tests this weekend starting at No. 52 LSU on Friday at 5 p.m. MSU will then travel to second-ranked Texas A&M on Sunday at noon.

In singles, No. 104 Emmanouela Antonaki leads the team with a 12-6 mark during dual match play and 17-11 overall.

Dharani Niroshan has earned four SEC wins this season and is 11-9 overall and 8-4 in dual play. Emily Surcey claimed her first conference win against her South Carolina opponent on March 26.

This season, Mississippi State has earned 95 overall singles victories and 63 dual match wins.

In doubles, the duo of Antonaki and Niroshan grabbed a doubles victory last Friday against Ole Miss tandem of Anaelle Leclercq and Ludmila Kareisova.

MSU travels to Baton Rouge with a 10-10 overall record and looking to secure its first conference win.

LSU is 9-8 overall and is 2-7 in SEC play. The Tigers dropped a 5-2 decision to then No. 4 Georgia last Friday and fell to 14th-ranked Tennessee 4-3 last Sunday.

The Tigers have two ranked singles players in their lineup in 22nd-ranked Anastasiya Komar and 31st-ranked Kylie Collins.

Additionally, the duo of Collins and Komar are ranked seventh nationally, Komar and Nikita Vishwase rank 43rd and Noor Carrington and Safiya Carrington rank 72nd in doubles.

Texas A&M heads into the weekend currently 21-1 overall and 9-0 in conference play. The Aggies will face Ole Miss on Friday before the Bulldogs head into College Station on Sunday.

The Aggies lineup features several ranked singles players: Mary Stoiana (2), Mia Kupres (50), Carson Branstine (55), Salma Ewing (77), Gianna Pielet (101), Jayci Goldsmith (111) and Daria Smetannikov (117).

Texas A&M also has four doubles ranked tandems in Branstine and Stoiana (3), Goldsmith and Ewing (20), Goldsmith and Stoiana (62) and Kurpes and Stoiana (68).

The match against LSU will mark the 51st between the two teams, while MSU has only faced the Aggies 12 times. The Bulldogs and Texas A&M met each other for the first time in 1989 and didn’t see each other again until 2013.
