MSU Moving On To The Main Draw


TULSA, Okla., – Mississippi State is moving on to the main draw in both singles and doubles at the ITA All-American Championship.

No. 68 Petar Jovanovic picked up a pair of singles wins on Tuesday to qualify for the tournament’s main draw. Jovanovic downed Duke’s Michael Heller 6-3, 7-6(1) to start the day and followed up with a dominating 6-2, 6-1 showing against Princeton’s Sebastian Sec a few hours later.

Jovanovic and partner Benito Sanchez Martinez also qualified for the doubles main draw after closing out Tuesday by edging Oliver Tarvet and Iiro Vasa of San Diego 7-6(4), 7-5.

Sanchez Martinez started the day off with a 6-7(4), 6-1, 6-2 singles victory against Guillaume Dalmasso of Santa Clara but fell short of reaching the main draw after a 6-3, 6-2 loss to California’s Carl Emil Overbeck.

No. 36 Dusan Milanovic will start the Bulldogs off in the opening round of the main draw on Wednesday. Milanovic earned an automatic bid into the main draw and will take on No. 62 Max Westphal of Columbia at 9 a.m.

Jovanovic will take the court at noon against 38th-ranked Tadeas Paroulek of Baylor and is scheduled to team up with Sanchez Martinez at 2:30 p.m. versus No. 47 Alex Kiefer and Oskar Brostrom Poulsen of Virginia.

MSU faced Poulsen during the spring while he was playing at Middle Tennessee.
