TULSA, Okla., – The first day of play at the ITA All-American Championships is in the books.
A pair of Mississippi State freshmen competed in Saturday’s prequalifying singles draw but came up short on Saturday.
Roberto Ferrer Guimaraes opened the event against Princeton sophomore Ellis Short. The former five-star signee from Lakeland, Tennessee lost his collegiate debut 6-1, 7-5. He will have a consolation match at noon on Sunday against senior Peyton Gatti of UT-Chattanooga.
Radomir Tomic also came up short later on Saturday afternoon, falling 7-5, 6-3 to Arkansas sophomore Benedikt Emesz. Tomic will take on Northern Illinois senior Chen En Tsai in a consolation match on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
Qualifying rounds of the tournament start on Monday and the main draw begins on Wednesday.
