The “Moments of Excellence” campaign will serve as a look back to the historic highlights and memorable accomplishments in Tech Athletics during 2022. Each varsity sport program will have an outstanding moment featured during December on the official Virginia Tech Athletics website and @HokieSports social media properties. Fans can visit the Hokies’ social media directory to stay in contact with Tech Athletics and their favorite sports teams.
This fall, Ryan Fishback claimed the ITA Atlantic Regional singles title and reached the doubles final alongside Alberto Orso serving as the men’s tennis Moment.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Ryan Fishback entered the ITA Atlantic Regional as the No. 4 seed and proved to be that and then some cruising to three-consecutive victories in straight sets before reaching the semifinal.
The Geneva, N.Y native displayed his mental toughness battling back after losing the first set against Virginia’s Chris Rodesch – who was ranked No. 7 in ITA’s preseason rankings – to take home a three-set win, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Fishback brought home the hardware by defeating No. 4 Inaki Montes (UVA) in the final by retirement due to injury.
In doubles, Alberto Orso paired up with Fishback and opened the main draw with a resounding 8-1 victory over challengers from ODU. The Hokie duo would earn two more wins against Commonwealth foes including a hard-fought 87-75 tiebreak win over ODU’s Younes Lalemi and Brandon Perez to advance to the final.
Orso and Fishback fought until the end but eventually fell in the doubles final, finishing as the runner-up.
