Michigan State Women’s Tennis Succeeds In Second Day Of Spartan Invite

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State women’s tennis partook in the second day of tournament play at the MSU Indoor Tennis for the Spartan Invite.

It was another early morning for the Spartans, with doubles play beginning at 9 a.m., and freshman Ellie Blackford and senior Liisa Vehvilainen were able to conquer their DePaul opponents, Hannah Smith and Sasha Sakura Stula. The match was extremely back-and-forth, with the Green and White clinching the win at 6-4.

Singles play began at 2 p.m. with all Spartans participating in the action.

Spartans junior Issey Purser and sophomore Natalie Stasny were both able to successfully defeat their opponents. Purser battled back from losing her first set against Ohio State foe, Dani Schoenly, winning two sets in a row in order to take her match 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).

Stasny dominated her match, winning her match against Butler opponent, Chase Metcalf, 6-3, 6-2.

While other Spartans competed Saturday, they were unable to claim victories against their opponents. Everyone in the Green and White fought hard in their matches, putting strong performances on the board and making their opponents fight for success.

The Spartans return to the courts for the final day of the Spartan Invite on Sunday, Nov. 3. Fans can follow the Spartan Invite Tournament Central for updated schedule information as well as results and watch live links.
