Michigan State Women’s Tennis At ITA Regionals


EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State women’s tennis is back in action this weekend, heading to Columbus, Ohio for the ITA Midwest Regional Championships. 

The Green & White are sending four players to Ohio State to compete in their third tournament this fall season. Matches are scheduled at the outdoor Auer Tennis Complex, but may be moved indoors to the Ty Tucker Tennis Center in the case of inclement weather.

The tournament kicks off Thursday, Oct. 10 and continues through Monday, Oct. 14. 

Freshman Ellie Blackford, junior Matilde Morais and senior Liisa Vehvilainen are set to represent the Spartans in the singles main draw of the competition, automatically qualifying for the competition. These matches will commence on Friday, Oct. 11.

Doubles duos of redshirt-sophomore Oriana Parkins-Godwin/senior Liisa Vehvilainen and freshman Ellie Blackford/junior Matilde Morais compete in the main draw of doubles matches. Doubles play begins on Friday, Oct. 11, with the pairs’ opponents still to be announced.

These matches will serve as qualifiers for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships set for November. The two finalists from both the main draws of singles and doubles matches will earn automatic qualification towards the NCAA Championships.
