STILLWATER, Okla. (theACC.com) – Miami’s Alexa Noel was crowned the 2024 NCAA DI Women’s Tennis Singles National Champion after defeating Georgia’s Anastasiia Lopata in three sets on Saturday at the Championships, hosted by Oklahoma State University. Noel is the 10th ACC student-athlete to capture the women’s singles NCAA title.
The redshirt junior, who is ranked No. 10 nationally, dropped the first set 4-6, before battling back in the second. Noel fought back from a 3-1 deficit to tie the second set at 3-3. She found the score knotted again at 5-5, before taking the final two games to earn the second set win, 7-5.
With the third set even at 2-2, Noel took the 3-2 advantage and broke Lopata’s serve to take a 4-2 and then 5-2 lead. After Lopata, who took down the No. 1 overall seed to reach the championship, won the third game, Noel bounced back claim the last set, 6-3, to earn the national title.
Noel is the third player from Miami to win the NCAA Women’s Singles title after Audra Cohen in 2007 and Estela Perez-Somarriba in 2019.
