Aubone then doubled Miami’s lead to 2-0 with a convincing 6-3, 6-1 victory at sixth singles. The Argentinian has now won five singles matches in a row.
The Yellow Jackets cut Miami’s lead in half when Martin fell to Georgia Tech’s Andres Martin, 3-6, 4-6, at first singles.
However, graduate student Leo Bierbaum and freshman Nacho Serra Sanchez responded with a pair of victories on courts four and five, respectively, to clinch the match for the Hurricanes. Bierbaum won, 6-4, 6-3 over Rohan Sachdev, while Serra Sanchez tallied a 6-4, 7-6 (3) victory over Elias Shokry.
Marcus McDaniel recorded the Yellow Jacket’s only other point of the day on court two, taking down Prat, 7-6 (4), 6-7 (3), 1-0 (10-5) in a tiebreak match.
In the final match of the day, Katz battled Georgia Tech’s Keshav Chopra to three sets, ultimately prevailing, 6-0, 5-7, 6-4, at third singles. The sophomore has now taken down three nationally ranked opponents this spring.
The Hurricanes hit the road on Wednesday for a mid-week ACC contest against No. 17 Florida State. First serve in Tallahassee, Fla., is set for 5:30 p.m.
