CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team found its way back to the win column on Friday, defeating the North Florida Ospreys (1-1), 7-0, at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
This was Miami’s (3-2) third shutout victory of the season and first 7-0 win.
The doubles pair of fifth-year senior Juan Martin Jalif and freshman Martin Vergara Del Puerto highlighted doubles action, rallying from down 2-5 to force a 6-6 tiebreak. The duo completed the comeback with a 7-6(6) win at first doubles over No. 45 Rodrigo Crespo and Jonas Hartenstein.

Graduate student Dan Martin and fifth-year senior Franco Aubone recorded the other doubles victory for the Hurricanes, cruising to a 6-4 victory over North Florida’s Matt Carroll and Bruno Vietri.
With the doubles point in hand, the Hurricanes carried momentum into singles action, rattling off six straight victories to seal the shutout win.
Sophomore Martin Katz, the No. 51 player in the nation, maintained his undefeated status in dual match play, recording a 6-1, 6-1 win at second singles to move to 2-0 on court two and 5-0 overall this spring. Freshman Nacho Serra Sanchez tallied the second singles wins for Miami, also defeating his opponent, 6-1, 6-1.
The match was clinched on court five when graduate student Leo Bierbaum handed a 6-3, 6-1 loss to North Florida’s Breno Marques. Like Katz, Bierbaum has yet to lose in dual match play, holding a perfect 3-0 record.
Freshman Antonio Prat extended Miami’s lead to five with a 7-5, 7-5 win on court three and Aubone followed that up with a 6-3, 4-6, 10-5 victory of his own at fourth singles.
No. 21 Martin closed out the Hurricanes’ shutout victory on court one, defeating Jonas Hartenstein, 7-6(3), 6-4.
The Hurricanes are back in action on Sunday when they host the Florida Atlantic Owls at 3 p.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
