COLUMBIA, S.C.—Men’s tennis players from the University of North Carolina picked up a doubles win and three singles victories on Saturday on day two of the Gamecock Ranked +1, hosted by the University of South Carolina.
The team of Benjamin Kittay and Karl Poling split a pair of doubles matchups. To begin the day in the A-draw doubles first round, Theo Winegar and Michael Zheng of Columbia University beat Kittay and Poling, 8-2. Later, in the second round, Kittay and Poling bounced back with an 8-5 victory over Lucas Da Silva and Carter Morgan of South Carolina.
In singles action, Kittay, Poling and Anuj Watane all won their matches on Saturday. Kittay swept Holden Koons of Wake Forest in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, in the A-draw third round. In the third round of the B-draw, Watane outlasted Alexander Keifer of Virginia in three sets, 7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-2 while Poling was leading Braden Shick of NC State, 6-4, 1-0 when Schick had to retire.
Action at the Gamecock Ranked +1 will conclude on Sunday.
